Chipping Processes-

Chipping Processes

From a CNC-processing center to a circular grinder: All that is state of the art in metal processing, is what we have got in our house. Because we rather rely on our 175 years of experience than on others.

Milling

The tightly clamped tool is processed by a cutting move through the rotation of the cutting tool. At Schmid screws we practise different milling techniques: Face milling for smooth and plane areas, water-jet milling, hobbing for the production of cogwheels, profile milling, round milling and form milling, 3-axis-milling up to 800 mm length and 5-axis-milling up to 450 mm x 550 mm. At our CNC-milling we are capable of programming up to 8 axis on our Hermle C22U.

Turning

To the contrary of milling the component part is turned at a turning process. With our CNC-turining machines we dispose of the possibility of a complete processing including simple boring- and milling operations.

Round Grinding

enables the processing of round parts in a grinding operation. At Schmid screws we dispose of highly flexible CNC-round grinding machines.

Die Sinking

Also called spark eroding: a thermic, eroding manufacturing method for conductible materials. The process takes place in a non-conductible medium (oil or de-ionised water). The electrode tool is taken towards the component until a spark is emitted which melts up the part point-shaped. Even more complicated geometric profiles of steel and hard metals can be manufactured by this method.

Wire EDM

Wire EDM (Electro Discharge Machining) is very similar in principle to die sinking. As the name suggests, the difference lies in the fact that a wire forms the electrode for discharge machining.
This machining method allows the production of highly complex workpiece geometries with the smallest gap widths and inner radii. The finest surface finishes and the highest precision can be achieved.

Grinding

The advantage against other chipping manufacturing processes is in the good grindability of hard materials. At Schmid we are equipped for circumference-face grinding, longitudinal grinding, longitudinal-circular grinding und cross-circular grinding

Heat treatment

is the combination of hardening and tempering of steel at high temperatures. In this way the material gets a high firmness and toughness.

Honing

A chipping fine-processing method for almost every material which allows an excellent profile accuracy. The The cutting of the material is done by geometrically undefined cutting by means of comprehended grinding abrasives in honeledges. The tool moves longitudinal as well as rotating.
